Once the OPW’s Central Veterinary research laboratory, the upper yard of the classically styled Abbotstown House was rescued by Sport Ireland, to provide the needs of a modern office headquarters. The approach was to preserve the historic courtyard buildings, while applying reversible, modern elements to support the current requirements for Sport Ireland. The external spaces were designed to be hard paved low maintenance and to reflect the historic use of the stable yard setting, the central south facing courtyard area is enclosed by the historic stone walls, with external breakout areas and seating. |
